You know how kids are always tugging on your sleeve saying, "Mom, look at this!" or "Watch what I can do!"? Whether it’s an elaborate LEGO tower, a freshly drawn comic book, or a wild new dance move in the middle of the kitchen while you're trying to get dinner on the table—kids naturally love to show off what they've created.
The Junior Showcasing Robots badge takes that exact energy and channels it into a fantastic real-world life skill: teaching our girls how to present their engineering designs, communicate technical ideas with confidence, and discover how real robotics teams compete.
Between juggling school drop-offs, sports practices, and my own beautiful, messy family schedule with my son and daughter, the thought of leading a robotics badge used to make me sweat. But introducing technical communication doesn't require expensive robots, coding bootcamps, or high-stress planning.
To help you run an engaging meeting without the headache, here are 5 fast, fun, and easy activities to help your Juniors earn their Showcasing Robots badge!
What You Need:
How to Do It:
Watch an example of a Shark Tank pitch.
Give the girls 5 minutes to write down 3 key facts on an index card: the name of their robot, the problem it solves, and how its sensors or motors work.
Have the girls form a circle. Each girl takes turns stepping into the center to deliver an energetic 60-second "Shark Tank" style pitch explaining why their robot deserves investment.
The rest of the troop acts as the "Investors" and must ask one technical question before giving two enthusiastic compliments.

It removes the pressure of long speeches while teaching girls how to articulate technical concepts quickly, clearly, and persuasively.

What You Need:
How to Do It:
Split the troop into two teams. Each team sends up a presenter to explain a visual poster showing how a robot navigates an obstacle.
Midway through their explanation, the leader rings a bell and reads a "Glitch Scenario Card."
The presenter must pause, describe what diagnostic check an engineer would run to fix that glitch, and resume the presentation smoothly to complete their run.

In the real world, tech fails during live demos all the time! This high-energy game teaches girls to think on their feet and demonstrate troubleshooting skills with total confidence.

Use standard repositionable self-adhesive easel pads so girls can sketch, stick, and restick their presentation diagrams across the room without messy tape.

How to Do It:
Roll out butcher paper across your meeting tables and have each girl sketch an overhead blueprint of their robot design, labeling inputs (sensors), controllers (microchips), and outputs (motors).
Once the blueprints are finished, turn on some fun music and do a "Gallery Walk" around the room.
Each girl leaves a sticky note on at least three blueprints with an engineering question (e.g., "How much weight can that gripper lift?" or "What battery voltage does this motor need?").

It teaches visual data presentation and technical schematic design, meeting core badge requirements without needing a single laptop or screen.

Keep fine-point felt markers handy so their technical diagrams look sharp and readable.

Pull up a 2-minute video clip of a real-world youth robotics competition match (such as FIRST LEGO League or VEX IQ).
Have the girls watch the match twice: first to observe how the robot moves during the pre-programmed (autonomous) phase, and second to watch how the team communicates at the driver station.
Have the girls tally scored game pieces and discuss what teamwork strategies the drive team used to avoid collisions on the game field.
