What you need for the patriotic star wreath

  • Red construction paper: Show your love for America's boldest color!

  • Blue construction paper: Represent the vast blue sky and sparkling oceans.

  • Paper Plate: This will form the base of your patriotic star wreath.

  • Scissors: Perfect for cutting out your paper plate and shaping cardboard stars.

  • Pencil: Plan your stars by sketching them lightly on construction paper first.

  • Satin Ribbon: Red, white, and blue ribbons will add a touch of elegance and tie your wreath together.

  • Glue: This will secure your stars and ribbon to the wreath base.

Step #1 Create the patriotic star wreath base

  1. Grab your paper plate: Make sure it's white on the back because that's the side you'll be using for the wreath.

  2. Trace a perfect circle: Use a round object, like a ruler or cup, that's smaller than the plate's center. Trace a circle in the middle of the plate with a pencil.

  3. Cut out the center: Carefully cut out the traced circle with scissors. You can also use a craft knife or scalpel for a cleaner cut, but be cautious and use adult supervision if needed.

Step #2 - Let's Make Some Stars!

There are a few ways to create your stars:

  • If you have a star-shaped object like a cookie cutter, use it as a template to trace perfect stars onto your red and blue construction paper.

  • Find and print star templates online in red and blue, then cut them out for easy tracing.

  • If you're feeling artistic, grab your pencil and draw stars directly onto the cardboard. Aim for a size that's roughly the width of your wreath for a balanced look.

Please note: The number of stars you need depends on the size of your patriotic star wreath. For a medium-sized wreath, you can aim for around 6 red stars and 6 blue stars. Adjust this number based on your specific patriotic star wreath size and desired star density.

  1. Once you have all your star tracings or drawings, grab your scissors and carefully cut them out from the red and blue construction paper.

Step #3 Add Stars to the patriotic star wreath

Now that your paper plate patriotic star wreath base and collection of red and blue stars are ready, it's time for the exciting part: transforming your wreath into a display of patriotism!

  1. We'll create a visually appealing pattern by alternating red and blue stars. Apply a small dot of glue to the back of the stars.

  2. Carefully position the red star on your paper plate wreath base. Try to space the stars evenly around the wreath.

  3. Continue alternating red and blue stars around the entire wreath base until you've covered the entire surface.

  4. If there are any small spaces between the stars, you can add smaller star cutouts or even red and blue construction scraps to create a more complete design.

Step #4 The Finishing Touches

Now that your patriotic star wreath is covered with red and blue stars let's add the finishing touches.

  • Ribbon for Hanging: Cut a piece of red ribbon long enough to hang your wreath comfortably. Apply a generous amount of glue to one end of the ribbon and press it firmly onto the back of the wreath at the top center.
