Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Outdoor Art Expert Badge Activity Booklet

This Activity Booklet will allow you to bring your art and the outdoors together to create something helpful to the environment.

You will make some of your greatest art with the inspiration of nature and design all kinds of different art pieces. You will make a number of creative outdoor-themed pieces expressing yourself through photography and making your own nature music, and the best part is that you will have lots of fun doing it. With step-by-step activities, you can’t ask for an easier way to run your meeting.

Print Making

Try print making using nature. First explain to the girls what print making means.

What is printmaking? It is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. The design is created on the matrix by working its flat surface with either tools or chemicals.

Where to get started with printmaking techniques?  I have searched the web and found a lot of amazing resources to get you started. Here are 3 sites worth checking out.

Learn about Labyrinths

Explain to girls more about Labyrinths and mazes and make one of their own. Here a few of the key difference between the two.

Mazes Labyrinth
A maze is suppose to be confusing there will be a lot of different paths and branches and dead ends.

A labyrinth will only have 1 single route to take it may twist and turn but nothing will branch off.
A maze is suppose to be like a puzzle it is designed to sometimes be very difficult and sometimes have a lot of complexity.
A labyrinth is not designed to be difficult at all instead it is often long with one path to end.
A maze can also have different entry and exit points.

A labyrinth will only have one entrance and one exit that will end in center.
Mazes are used for many science experiments and will study peoples intelligence and awareness of surroundings. Labyrinths can have spiritual significance. It is the long path and complex walk to reach god.

For a little extra fun watch this cool video of someone who made such a maze for their cats and watch the cats solve the labyrinth and get to finish.

Triptych Pictures

One fun thing to do is take pictures of nature and align them into frame of three across also called a triptych picture. Learn more about Triptych.

What is a selfie triptych? Pose against different backdrops and experiment with your facial expressions. It is also a great idea to change your clothes for each new shot. You can leave your images colorful or turn them into black and white – the choice is yours.

Scavenger Hunts on the Fly

As you know there are lots of different type of scavenger hunts you can do with your girls.

Here are just a few to get you started…

  • Have girls create scavenger hunts for each other to find pictures
  • Don’t do any planning and use the GoFindIt – Outdoor Scavenger Hunt

Learn a new skill each month

If you want your girls to get outdoors, learn new survival skills, and enjoy the other joys that come along with being outdoors the Think Outdoors monthly subscription program will be perfect for your troop. It is a year long program with something new each month to get your girls outdoors exploring nature. I have the year subscription and am excited to share my experience with you each month while I do the program Learn more about the boxes.

What do we do after your girls complete the activities?

Well of course give them the Senior Outdoor Art Expert Badge to display proudly on their vest, they earned it! Additionally If you are like many leaders we want to award our girls when they complete something even beyond just the patch. One great way to show achievement is with a certificate. Don’t worry you don’t have to make them, I found a resource that has done all the work for you and all you have to do is print them and customize the certificates with each girl’s name, badge or award earned, date, and troop leader.

Editable certificates perfect for awarding girls after earning a badge.
