If you're looking for ideas to make your meeting more fun while discovering the great outdoors and getting creative, you have come to the right place. Use some of these activities below to get outdoors, create fantastic art masterpieces with your girls, and earn the Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Badge.
Below are a few ideas to get you started.
This Activity Booklet has interactive activities and crafts that teach girls more about bringing art and the outdoors together. Your girls will explore the outdoors by looking at nature, both close up with a photo hunt and by going on a scavenger hunt hike, searching for different shapes within nature.
Some activities will get the girls up and moving while they learn more about how sounds and movement are also a form of art. Lastly, they will get creative with two hands-on crafts using found objects in nature. With step-by-step activities, you can’t ask for an easier way to run your meeting.
Take your girls on a hike and encourage them to listen for birds, look for birds, and search for signs of bird nests. If you want the girls to learn more about the different kinds of birds they see, a great resource is the "Birds, Nests, and Eggs Guide" for kids. Remind them not to disturb or touch nature, but to observe and learn instead.
After the hike, return to your meeting space or campsite and have your girls create a nest with their favorite type of bird in it, or perhaps one of the birds they saw during the hike.

If you're like me, nature crafts aren't your strong suit. I never know where to begin or what types of crafts to do at different times of the year. So, I turned to Google and found Kid’s Style Nature Crafts, which offers over 50 ideas for kids. Each project features full-color images and step-by-step diagrams, making it easy to show my girls what the final craft will look like without having to make them ahead of time. Just pick a few projects, gather the necessary supplies (besides nature, of course), and you're all set.
My girls love painting rocks! We've made all sorts of creations by gluing them together, turning them into pet rocks for the weekend, and more. There are endless possibilities with rock painting.
Did you know? In archaeology, rock art refers to human-made markings on natural stone. This global phenomenon is found in many culturally diverse regions around the world.
Beyond just painting a few rocks for your outdoor art badge, you can learn more about participating in the Kindness Rock project and discover new techniques for painting rocks.
For some added fun and exercise, you can try animal yoga with your girls. Below is a short 5-minute video featuring yoga poses inspired by various animals. This can be a wonderful way to conclude your meeting or serve as a warm-up beforehand. It's also an enjoyable method to introduce your girls to yoga poses.
Well of course give them the Outdoor Art Creator Badge to display proudly on their vest, they earned it! Additionally If you are like many leaders we want to award our girls when they complete something even beyond just the patch. One great way to show achievement is with a certificate. Don’t worry you don’t have to make them, I found a resource that has done all the work for you and all you have to do is print them and customize the certificates with each girl’s name, badge or award earned, date, and troop leader.
Editable certificates perfect for awarding girls after earning a badge.
If you have a multi-level troop, consider using one of these variations tailored to the age of your girls:
Enjoy every minute being a leader and continue to inspire your girls!
