12 Fun Games And Activities To Earn The Brownie Pet Badge

|

Time to read 5 min

My girls enjoy playing games and doing crafts. While learning about pets I incorporated both when learning because it is a great way to reinforce the topic we are covering.

Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Pets Activity Booklet

In this Activity Booklet, your girls will learn the essentials of pet care through engaging games and activities. From understanding how to keep pets happy and healthy to learning about the responsibilities of pet ownership, this booklet provides a fun and interactive way to educate your girls. With step-by-step activities, running your meeting has never been easier. Get your copy today and watch your girls become pet care experts! Learn more and get yours today!

Can you clean you dish first

In this fun activity, you can use bowls to represent doggy dishes and fill them with Jell-O or pudding. Have the kids kneel beside the dishes with their hands behind their backs and challenge them to finish their "doggy dish" first. Don't forget to grab your camera and capture the hilarious moments during this race! It's a playful way for your girls to learn about pet care while having a great time.

Dog or Cat Relay

In this fun and interactive activity, divide the girls into two teams and prepare cookie bones and cat toys. At the start signal, each girl must crawl on all fours to the other end of the track, pick up a bone, and eat it before returning to the next teammate in line. The first team to have all their members complete the challenge wins.

To add some variety and excitement, encourage the girls to bark as they take their turns. They can also switch roles and pretend to be cats, running down to retrieve a cat toy and batting it all the way back to the next player. This will engage their imagination and elevate the enjoyment of the game.

Dog Poo Pick Up

In this activity, girls can use their problem-solving skills and work together to clean up the "doggie poo" candy in a fun and engaging way. The winner can be determined by the team that collects the most items in their brown bags.

As a alternative you can do something without candy. If you are concerned with hygiene and safety with handling food items. You can replace the candy with small, non-edible items like paper cutouts or colorful pom-poms. This way, girls can still participate in a clean-up challenge while maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.

Who Let the Dogs Bark?

You will need a tape recorder. Have each girl take a turn barking into a recorder or phone. Make sure you mark who’s voice is what. Then have girls guess who was barking.

Why Not Make Your Own Pet Frog

Do you remember when you were younger and you made your own pet rock? If so I bet your Brownies will love it to. Here is a kit that has everything you need to make that pet rock with your girls Craft Rock Pets Frog. If you have all the paint you need and don’t want to spend any extra of your budget on a kit, then how about a field trip, if you live near a beach or creek you could take the girls on a field trip to pick out their own rocks.

Make a Doggy Treat

Our pets have to eat just like us. You can make a yummy treat for your pets or to take to an animal shelter. Many recipes you find are less than 5 ingredients which make them perfect for a group of 2nd and 3rd graders to make the treat.

Peanut Butter Cookies

You will need the following items

  • 4 cups of flower
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup of peanut butter (I would recommend creamy)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • cookie cutters
  • Bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Roller

Before starting to put everything together make sure to preheat the oven to 350F.

  1. In a mixing bowl put together the eggs, peanut butter and flour and mix them up.
  2. Now start adding the water until you see the ingredients starting to get wet so you can roll out all of it as dough.
  3. Now roll out the dough and cut it out into shapes and put onto cookie sheets
  4. Cook the cookies for about 15 minutes.

If this recipe doesn’t work for you check out these other 24 amazing pet recipes with less than 5 ingredients in them.

Make Doggy Blankets

As a service project or as part of working on the badge you could set up time to go to your local animal shelter. As a added piece to your visit your girls could make a doggy blanket for some of the animals to have something soft to lay on. You could also work together and collect food and other supplies that your animal shelter needs. Make sure to contact your community animal shelter before making the trip.

For ready to make blankets get one of the fleece kits where its no sew but you tie them together. Amazon has some great ones to get you started.

Songs to sing About Pets

Girls love singing songs so have some time singing about our pets. Maybe have girls come up with their own songs or change out cats and dogs to different pets in their lives.

Sung to: “Bingo”
I know a cat with perky ears,
And Kitty is her name-o.
K-I-T-T-Y, K-I-T-T-Y, K-I-T-T-Y,
And Kitty is her name-o.
She makes a sound and it’s “meow,”
And Kitty is her name-o.
K-I-T-T-Y, K-I-T-T-Y, K-I-T-T-Y,
And Kitty is her name-o.

(tune of She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain)
Oh, I have a little black and white dog. Ruff! Ruff!
Oh, I have a little black and white dog. Ruff! Ruff!
Oh, I have a little dog, I have a little dog,
Oh, I have a little black and white dog. Ruff! Ruff!
Oh, he always comes to meet me when I call. Here, boy…
Oh, he jumps up high to give me a big lick. Slurp, slurp…
Oh, I feed him crunchy dog food every day. Crunch, crunch

Pet Fair

This would be a little homework before meeting. Have everyone pick a different pet, even if they don’t have that pet of their own. Give them a list of things to learn about that pet and bring it back to next meeting on a display board to share with everyone. I would recommend providing the display board for each girl and the questions to get answered so that everyones requirements are the same.

Ideas of questions to get you started:

  • Do you have one of these types of pets?
  • How much does it cost to take care of this pet?
  • What and how often does this pet eat?
  • Does this pet need or like human contact? How much or little?
  • How much space does this pet need?
  • Where does this pet sleep? And do they sleep during the night or day?
  • What is the energy level of this pet? Is that energy level compatible with our family?

What do we do after your girls complete the activities?

Well of course give them the badge to display proudly on their vest, they earned it! Additionally If you are like many leaders we want to award our girls when they complete something even beyond just the patch. One great way to show achievement is with a certificate. Don’t worry you don’t have to make them, I found a resource that has done all the work for you and all you have to do is print them and customize the certificates with each girl’s name, badge or award earned, date, and troop leader.

Editable certificates perfect for awarding girls after earning a badge.

Enjoy every minute being a leader and continue to inspire your girls!
