If your Brownie troop is working towards earning the Dancer Badge, get ready to step, spin, and groove with these fun and interactive activities! Dance is an incredible way for kids to express themselves, stay active, and learn new skills. These five exciting activities will get your Girl Scouts moving, laughing, and dancing their way to their badge.

Ideas to Earn the Brownie Dancer Badge

Balloon Dance Party

A simple way to introduce movement and rhythm is with a high-energy balloon dance challenge. This game gets kids moving while improving their coordination and balance.

How to Play:

  • Give each child a balloon and start the music.

  • As they dance, they must keep their balloon in the air without holding onto it.

  • The goal is to keep the balloon from touching the ground until the music stops.

  • If their balloon falls, they do a fun “dance challenge” (like a twirl, a jump, or a funky move) before rejoining the game.

This game encourages continuous movement and helps kids develop better body control while having a blast!

Dance Painting

Dance is a creative expression, so why not combine it with art? This activity turns dancing into a masterpiece and lets kids express themselves through movement and color.

What You Need:

  • A large, non-slip, washable mat or big sheets of paper

  • Washable, non-toxic paint

  • Bowls for different colors

How to Play:

  1. Pour different colors of paint into shallow bowls.

  2. Have each child dip their feet into a color of their choice.

  3. Start playing music and let the kids dance on the mat, making colorful footprints as they move.

  4. Once everyone has had a turn, admire the vibrant abstract painting created by their dance moves!

This activity reinforces creative expression and helps children see dance as a form of storytelling and art.

Spotlight Dance-Off

his classic dance game brings a thrilling element of surprise and excitement!

What You Need:

  • A flashlight or a small handheld spotlight

  • A speaker with fun, upbeat music

How to Play:

  1. Have all the kids spread out on the dance floor.

  2. Select one child to control the music and another to hold the spotlight.

  3. When the music starts, everyone dances freely.

  4. The child with the spotlight shines it on different dancers while the music plays.

  5. When the music stops, whoever the spotlight is on must freeze.

  6. Continue playing until only one dancer remains!

This game teaches kids about focus, quick reaction time, and how to perform confidently in front of others.

Dance Around the World

Introduce your troop to different cultures through dance! This activity will help them appreciate the diversity of movement and music from around the world.

How to Play:

  1. Choose a few dance styles from different cultures (such as salsa from Latin America, Irish step dancing, Bollywood from India, or hula from Hawaii).

  2. Show them a short video or demonstration of each style.

  3. Have the kids try out the basic steps and put together a mini dance routine.

  4. Encourage them to perform for each other and discuss what they enjoyed about each style.

This is not only fun but also helps kids develop an appreciation for different traditions and dance forms.

Freeze Dance with a Twist

This classic game gets a fun upgrade with different dance challenges!

How to Play:

  1. Play music and have everyone dance.

  2. When the music stops, instead of just freezing, call out a dance move they must hold (e.g., “tree pose,” “dab,” “twirl pose,” or “jump in the air”).

  3. If someone loses their balance or doesn’t follow the pose, they do a quick five-second solo dance before rejoining.

This version adds an element of creativity and gets kids thinking about different ways they can move their bodies.

These five activities will help your Brownie troop earn their Dancer Badge while having a fantastic time. From balancing balloons to creating dance art, these activities encourage self-expression, coordination, and cultural appreciation. So turn up the music, hit the dance floor, and let your troop dance to success!
