Outdoor Art Maker Badge Activity Booklet

Use this Activity Booklet with interactive activities and crafts that teach girls more about bringing art and the outdoors together. Your girls will explore the outdoors by going on a color and sound scavenger hunt and making some masterpieces that will not only showcase beautiful outdoor scenes but also teach them more about keeping the outdoors safe and clean. With step-by-step activities, you can’t ask for an easier way to run your meeting.

Bird Hunt and Craft

Take your girls on a hike and ask them to listen for birds and look for birds and any signs of bird nests. If you want to have the girls learn more about different kinds of birds they see a great bird guide that is for kids is the “Bird, Nests, and Egg Guide.”

Of course, remind them that we do not disturb or touch nature, but let’s look and learn. After the hike, go back to your meeting space or campsite and have your girls make a baby chick. It could be any color, maybe one they saw on their hike or learned about in a book.

How to make a bird

You can get a crafting coaster from Amazon in bulk for the troop. We painted it yellow, waited for it to dry, and then glued all the pieces and parts onto it, such as yellow feathers, felt beaks and feet, and, of course, wiggly eyes.

Nature Self Portrait

Each Daisy will need a large piece of poster board. Encourage the girls to explore their surroundings and gather natural treasures like leaves, flowers, sticks, and stones. It's time to get creative!

Let their imaginations run wild as they arrange these natural elements to create a unique self-portrait. They can use the items to represent their hair, eyes, nose, mouth, and even clothing. There are no rules, just endless possibilities!

Once their portraits are complete, let's admire the beautiful and creative works of art!

Musical Instrument Craft

You'll need:

  • 2 paper plates per girl
  • Raw beans
  • Markers
  • Jumbo popsicle sticks
  • Feathers
  • Tacky glue

Let's get crafty!

  1. Design your masterpiece: Let each Daisy decorate their paper plates and popsicle sticks with colorful markers. Encourage creativity and let their imaginations run wild!
  2. Fill it up: Pour a handful of beans onto one paper plate.
  3. Create the handle: Apply glue to the back of a popsicle stick and stick it securely to the bean-filled plate.
  4. Add a touch of flair: Glue feathers to the top of the popsicle stick for a fun and feathery touch.
  5. Seal the deal: Put glue around the edge of the bean-filled plate and carefully place the second paper plate on top, pressing firmly to seal. Let it dry completely.

Once your maracas are dry, take them outside and shake them to create your own unique sounds. Can you imitate the sounds of nature with your maracas? Let's see who can come up with the most creative sound effects!
