|

Time to read 6 min

There are so many ideas for Christmas. The following ideas are just a few of the things our troop have done during the holidays that our girls really enjoyed. I hope your girls will enjoy them too! Pick and choose the ideas that work for your troop.

You’ve Been Elfed: Mystery Scavenger Hunt

Have you ever heard of the concept of delivering Christmas cheer around your neighborhood and leaving note that said “You’ve Been Elfed”? This activity booklet is a mystery scavenger hunt where your girls will be helping Santa solve a mystery and learn more about being kind to others during the holiday season.

When done with the game there is also bonus content in so your girls can actually go out and deliver Christmas cheer for real using “You’ve been elfed” templates and a coupon code to get a free Elf Scout on a Mission fun patch . Learn more about this mystery game and get yours today!

Elves: Disaster in a Control Room

This fun, silly play is written to be performed on Zoom. We are in the control room of Santa’s Elves on Christmas Eve—our view is exactly what Santa sees on his sleigh monitors. Santa is about to take off, and 12 really character-y elves are going to be the ones to make that happen. Spark is in the lead this year, and if all goes well, he/she will be the next Chief Elf. But a disaster awaits that just might cancel Christmas.

Run Time: 30-40 minutes

Characters: 12-13 roles, double-casting possible for slightly larger or smaller groups.

  • Suggestions for Troops: You can make this as big or small as you want! It’s fun as a simple read through, or make a production of it. Ahead of your virtual meeting, assign roles so kids can practice their lines if they would like. If any members don’t want to act, there’s lots of opportunity to be in the show’s “Crew!” Artists can design art that has the scene names to show on a screen between scenes, Costume crew can help decide what the elves should wear, a director give opening statements and announce actors and their roles.
  • Group size: If you have more actors than parts, characters can easily be split so one actor plays them for half the scenes they appear in. If you have less members than roles, people can play 2 parts with just a costume piece to distinguish who they are reading for (for example, a clipboard for Handy or a beanie hat for Hugo). Santa only appears in the final scene with a monologue, so that part can be played by any of the actors (or even the troop leader).
  • Streaming: If you want an audience, stream your Zoom to Youtube or Facebook for any family members who want to watch.
  • Age range: The show is fun for all ages—older girls can really get into the characters, and younger kids just love to transform into silly elves! Suggested for troops 2nd grade and up mainly for the need to be able to read.

Purchase this activity Here: NOTE: Read the first few pages in the Freeview. To purchase, select a Printmaster Copy. No need to know the date or include it when you purchase—that feature is mainly for theaters. Your purchase allows you to distribute the script to your groups and do one streamed performance of it if you choose.

Gifts for our furry friends

Our troop decided to collect donations for our local animal shelter at Christmas. Often, with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, our furry friends get forgotten. We called our local shelter to see what their specific needs were and we shared it, with family and friends. We collected as much as we could and then set up a time, to deliver all the donations, to our animal shelter, as a troop. We also volunteered to help out and walk some of the dogs. Rules will vary per shelter. I know the staff and animals really appreciated it. If you don’t have time to do it before Christmas January is also a great time to do it.

Oh No! Santa’s List is Missing! Escape Room

This one comes from another passionate Girl leader. She created “Oh No! Santa’s List is Missing!” which tasks the players to find Santa’s list that Mrs. Claus hid because she is tired of spending Christmas Eve alone. She is hoping they will stay a bit longer and celebrate Christmas Eve with her. Help save Christmas by finding the items in less than an hour so Santa can deliver the toys on time.

It is designed for players to escape in an hour. The games are digital downloads that include your supply list, directions for setting up the room, how to set up locked boxes and what goes inside and all the printables that are used in the game. Simply set up meeting space so girls can walk around comfortably. Read more about this kit and get yours today.
