Have you ever wondered what kind of games kids play in other countries? Are they similar to our games in the United States or are they totally different? Tag and hide and seek are played in most countries with different versions of the game. Soccer is played on every continent however in some countries it’s called football. I have done a lot of events teaching my girls about countries around the world. At every event we always played games. I wanted to share with you a pile of games that you might want to play with your girls at your next international party.

Do you want to skip all the planning for your event? If so, use the Around the World Activity Booklet and play a variety of games from around the world. Game from China
Catch the Dragon Tail
Girls form a human chain, by getting in a line and placing their hands on the shoulders of the girl in front of them. The leader of the line plays the dragon’s head. The dragon’s tail is the last person in line. The idea of the game is for the girls behind the dragon’s head try to prevent her from touching the the dragons’s tail. When the dragon’s head touches the tail the girls switch positions so everyone gets a turn at the head or the tail.
Game from Australia
Skippyroo Kangaroo
Girls sit in a circle and a leader asks one girl to go in the middle of the circle. That girl is Skippyroo the kangaroo. The Skippyroo crouches forward on the floor, with her eyes closed, while the kids say “Skippyroo, kangaroo, dozing in the midday sun, comes a hunter, run, run, run”. At this time an leader points to a girl in the circle who then touches Skippyroo’s shoulder and says “Guess whose caught you just for fun?” Skippyroo has to guess the voice. If she guesses the voice correctly they swap places. The game begins again until everyone has a chance to be Skippyroo.
Games from Zambia
Frog Friendship
In this game the girls will pair up and put hands together facing each other and work together to hope from one end to other without letting go of hands touching. This requires communication and jumping at same time. It requires extreme concentration, stamina and balance.

Game From Brazil
Cinco Marias
This game is similar to jacks. Put your girls into groups of 3 to four girls. All you will need are 5 flat stones or pebbles for each group. Girls will take turns throwing all five stones on the floor. First girl will go and pick up a stone, toss it in air and pick up another and catch the tossed stone before it lands. Girl continues till all the stones have been picked up. In the next round, you must grab two stones at a time, and then three, and then all four, so the difficulty increases as the game goes on.
Game Representing Greece
Olympic Torch Relay Race
This game is not from Greece but great way to talk about Olympics and represent Greece if that is country you are working on at your event.
You will need a toilet plunger and ball to put in plunger for each team. Have girls line up in two teams. The first girl on each team will be given a “torch” which is actually just a plunger. Also give them the ball that will be placed in the plunger. When relay begins the two girls will run to the cone and back holding torch up and keeping ball balanced within the torch. When girl gets back to group next girl will go. First team to get everyone to run with torch wins. If they drop ball you can either have them start back at beginning or grab ball and continue where they dropped it.
All Around the World Brain Game
Now if you are looking for a fun way to learn about facts about other countries instead of just reading a presentation or making a poster about a country. Your girls will love Brainbox: All Around the World. In a nut shell girls will study the pictures-and-facts about a country on one side of the card for 10 seconds, and then flip to the other side to see how many questions they can answer. It can be played individually or in a larger group. There are 71 cards in this game so you won’t get bored. Check it out for yourself.
These are just a few of the games played in other countries. I think your girls will enjoy playing any of these games. I hope you have fun playing.
