Talk It Up: Cash Relay

What you need: 5 red cups each labeled 1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent and $1, play money templates, your own play money or real money.

How to play: Place the five cups labeled with amounts of money on one side of room. Divide your girls into two groups and give each group a cup of mixed coins and dollar bills same amount in each cup. On go the first girl on each team would reach into cup and pull out a random coin or dollar and run across room and put in the correct cup, then run back and tag next girl to go. Until all the money was gone. The team that sorts them all first is the winner.

Count It Up: Cookie Dancing Fun

This is a great activity to get to know more about Cookies or other fundraising products. You will need to cut out a large picture of each product, and music to play during game.

How to Play: Put the cookies in playing area in a large circle. Start playing the music. The girls dance around the floor, NOT touching the cookies, until the music stops. When the music stops, each girl stands on a cookie. When the music starts again, the girls start dancing and the leader removes a cookie. When the music stops the next time, some girls will have to share a cookie. This is to show how we can all share and be friends! Continue removing cookies when the music is playing until there is just one cookie left. Now all of the girls have to share just one cookie. To do this they may need to put just the toes of one foot on the cookie. If one person stands in the middle of the cookie, this is not sharing as there won’t be enough room for everyone. We all need to share!

Money Counts: Crack the Code

I found this resource online a few years back and the girls loved it. Grab your crayons and have fun coloring and uncovering the image, while learning more about coins. Click here to print image

This was created by Kathy Law she has a great shop on Teacher Pay Teacher you may find resources there that you can use with your girls as well.

Making Choices: Saving Money Piggy Bank

Have each girl design and color their personal piggy bank savings bank, so they can save for something they want or trip they want to go on. Set of 12 you can get for your troop.

Making Choices: Who Can We Help?

Even Kinder-gardeners and 1st graders can be leaders! Talk to your girls about what it be like to be hungry, not having the basic things we need such as wearing shoes that fit, clothes that are not to small. Talk to girls about ways they can help others. Have them brainstorm who they can help in neighborhood, organization, family whoever.

Then plan to do a collection and donate to the group. Ask the girls to imagine what they feel like when they are hungry. Is it a good feeling? How do they feel if they are wearing shoes that are too small-can they run and play like they do if they are wearing shoes that fit? Talk about children who may be lacking in the basics that the girls take for granted. How can they help?

List their ideas and vote on one to work on. Inform the parents that for the next meeting you will collecting items for the organization the girls want to donate to. Remember to contact them prior to the meeting so they do not forget.
