Truth Seeker Activity Booklet

This activity booklet was designed to fulfill the requirements for the Senior Truth Seeker badge or can be used by frontier girl leaders to earn similar badges. Great for teachers and home schooled kids as well.

Do you know what is true and what is fake? There is a lot of news and information on all forms of media, TV, paper, friends, family and of course on the Internet, but not all of it is true or should be created equal. You will find as you grow up some information is completely one sided or even wrong.  With the activities in this booklet you will learn how to tell the difference between fact and fiction. You will be able to judge your source for accuracy, credibility and truthfulness of the source.

Activities Include:

1. Why should I evaluate my sources? Using three different activities explore news sources and if they are true or full of fake facts. You will compare fake news outlets, learn what is true about online sources, and explore the difference between fact and opinion.
2. What the experts are saying? Using two activities dig deeper into facts and opinions in a articles even wrote by experts.
3. How to be a wise consumer? Play a game that teaches you about 12 different types of advertising techniques and then create your own using one of the techniques.
4. Where can I find truth in life? Using 3 activities discover more about truths in every day life. Watch a movie, review a movie, and explore other peoples thoughts on that movie, True and False activities where you learn more about Juliette Low, others in troop, and yourself.
5. Want to be a citizen journalist? Using two activities to help understand the difference between fake and true news. Explore headlines and then full stories looking for indicators that will tell you that it is a true story or not.
