Shapes in Nature Activity Booklet for 2nd and 3rd Graders

This activity booklet was designed to fulfill the requirements for the Brownie Shapes in Nature badge, or can be used by Frontier Girl leaders to earn similar badges. Great for teachers and home-schooled kids as well.

This booklet has activities that will guide you to discover the amazing shapes in nature. You'll go on scavenger hunts, make crafts using natural materials, play fun games, and create your own scientific graphs. It's a journey to uncover the hidden geometry all around you.

Activities Include:

• • Explore Natural Objects  – Discover how circles, squares, and triangles show up in the world outside by going on a nature scavenger hunt, playing a shape memory game, and creating a craft using leaves and stamps.

  • Visualize Your Findings –  Become a nature scientist by using a map to tally shapes, learn how to sort nature objects, and play a game to locate objects in nature using descriptions of what it looks like. 

  • A World of Symmetry –  Explore symmetry by matching symmetrical objects, building symmetrical puzzles, and learning about symmetrical animals.

  • Finding Spirals and Patterns – Discover the incredible patterns in nature through a pattern sort activity, a race to recognize patterns, and by making a tessellation art of your own.

  • Become a Bird Expert – Become a bird watcher by observing different birds with home made binoculars, playing a game to learn more about bird parents, and spotting birds in nature.
