Making Friends Activity Booklet

This activity booklet was designed to fulfill the requirements for the Girl Scout Brownie Making Friends badge, or can be used by Frontier Girl leaders to earn similar badges. Great for teachers and home-schooled kids as well.

This booklet will explore the simple, active pathways to building strong social confidence, empathy, and communication skills in young girls. Through fun games, creative crafts, and interactive worksheets, you will learn to start friendly conversations with ease, practice meaningful kindness within your community, and resolve friendship disagreements through group compromise. This booklet will help girls see how small, inclusive actions can make their schools, neighborhoods, and troops a warmer place for everyone.

Activities Include:

• Breaking the Ice – Scouts will discover how to start conversations with the Common Ground Web game, craft their own Friendship Discovery Wheels, and use the Playground Chat Challenge to gain social confidence.

• Kindness and Caring – Girls practice empathy by participating in the Compliment Relay, painting Kindness Rocks of Encouragement, and completing secret "Bucket Filler" missions.

• Working Through Differences – This module teaches peaceful resolution via the Great Island Compromise game, the construction of Troop Agreement Totem Poles, and the use of "Stop, Breathe, Talk" conflict maps.

• Making New Friends Feel Welcome – Troops learn to foster inclusion by playing Musical Islands of Inclusion, building a collaborative Welcome Troop Friendship Banner, and performing a "Look Around" Recess Audit.

• Saying Goodbye and Staying in Touch – Scouts conclude their badge work with the reflective Friendship Circle Squeeze, a creative Friendship Bracelet Swap, and the Gratitude Card Delivery project.
