Designs in Nature Activity Booklet for 2nd and 3rd Graders

This activity booklet was designed to fulfill the requirements for the Brownie Designs in Nature badge, or can be used by Frontier Girl leaders to earn similar badges. Great for teachers and home-schooled kids as well.

This booklet provides hands-on activities to keep girls engaged, focused on nature, geometry, engineering, and biology. Learn about life cycles, shapes, and bird behavior.

Activities Include:

• • Uncover Nature's Timeline – Match lifespans of animals and trees, and draw tree rings to represent a tree's age and events.

  • Explore the Shapes of the Hive – Hunt for tessellating patterns and create colorful honeycomb art using hexagons.

  • Engineer a Bird Feeder – Build a bird feeder and mix bird food to create a custom seed blend.

  • Create Bird Food Rations – Match ratios with bird facts and design bird-themed art using seeds.

  • Observation and Adaptation –  Match bird cards with descriptions and simulate bird beak functions in a food-gathering challenge
