Many of us use supplies in our kitchen to make dinner for our family, or use baking soda to keep our fridge smelling fresh, but there are a lot of fun things you can do with those supplies that you may not of even thought of. Your girls can start exploring that science that is laying around their house with some of the activities in this post.
Below are a few ideas to get you started.
Before jumping into a few ideas, do you want to skip all the planning? What you need: Empty plastic bottle (make sure completely dry) and tissue paper shreds
How to do: Put the tissue paper shreds into bottle and rub it really hard on the carpet or in your hair. Then you will see the tissue paper work just like our hair does standing up on because of the static electricity.
What you need: Balloon for each girl, running water, salt and pepper
How to play: Blow up balloon and give it to each girl. Have them rub the balloon in their hair to see it stand up. If their hair wont produce the static try using wool cloth instead of hair.
Try these few things with your balloon:
What you need: 2 liter bottle, water, measuring cup, alka seltzer, funnel, vegetable oil, red food coloring or color of girls choice.
How to make: First pour 3/4 cup of water into the bottle using the funnel. Then pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full. Give it a few minutes and let the water and oil separate. Then add ten drops of red food coloring to the bottle or other color if you prefer. And see your lava lamp in action. What you need: Joy washing liquid – 1 part, Water – 15 parts, Glycerin – 1/4 part
How to make: Mix together the three ingredients and let it sit for a couple hours, the longer you leave it the better the bubbles will be. You can make bubble wands using coat hangers or wires, also straws and strings work great as well. If you just want to have them available to use here is a pack of a dozen wands you can use with your troop.
What you need: small bowl, vinegar A small cup or bowl, food coloring, dish soap, and baking soda
How to make: fill the small bowl halfway with the vinegar and add in a few drops of the food coloring of your choice. Add some liquid dish soap and mix everything together. Then add in a teaspoon of baking soda and stir. Now watch as your potion ooze and bubbles. Watch the video below to see it in action.
