Other Fun Activities To Try

Static Electricity Bottle

What you need: Empty plastic bottle (make sure completely dry) and tissue paper shreds

How to do: Put the tissue paper shreds into bottle and rub it really hard on the carpet or in your hair. Then you will see the tissue paper work just like our hair does standing up on because of the static electricity.

Balloon Static

What you need: Balloon for each girl, running water, salt and pepper

How to play: Blow up balloon and give it to each girl. Have them rub the balloon in their hair to see it stand up. If their hair wont produce the static try using wool cloth instead of hair.

Try these few things with your balloon:

  • Turn on the faucet, rub the balloon on your head a few times, then move it near the water. The stream will bend without being touched.
  • Put a teaspoon of salt and paper on a plate for each girl. With the static active the grains of salt and pepper will react toward their balloons by jumping on them.

Make a Home Made Lava Lamp

What you need: 2 liter bottle, water, measuring cup, alka seltzer, funnel, vegetable oil, red food coloring or color of girls choice.

How to make: First pour 3/4 cup of water into the bottle using the funnel. Then pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full. Give it a few minutes and let the water and oil separate. Then add ten drops of red food coloring to the bottle or other color if you prefer. And see your lava lamp in action. Below is a quick video to checkout if you want to see how its made.

Making Giant Bubbles

What you need: Joy washing liquid – 1 part, Water – 15 parts, Glycerin – 1/4 part

How to make: Mix together the three ingredients and let it sit for a couple hours, the longer you leave it the better the bubbles will be. You can make bubble wands using coat hangers or wires, also straws and strings work great as well. If you just want to have them available to use here is a pack of a dozen wands you can use with your troop.

Fun With Bubble Potion

What you need: small bowl, vinegar A small cup or bowl, food coloring, dish soap, and baking soda

How to make: fill the small bowl halfway with the vinegar and add in a few drops of the food coloring of your choice. Add some liquid dish soap and mix everything together. Then add in a teaspoon of baking soda and stir. Now watch as your potion ooze and bubbles. Watch the video below to see it in action.

If you don’t want to spend the time planning, our Activity Booklet has step-by-step instructions with activities that don’t require any planning other than gathering supplies and printing booklets.

What do we do after your girls complete the activities?

Well of course give them the badge to display proudly on their vest, they earned it! Additionally If you are like many leaders we want to award our girls when they complete something even beyond just the patch. One great way to show achievement is with a certificate. Don’t worry you don’t have to make them, I found a resource that has done all the work for you and all you have to do is print them and customize the certificates with each girl’s name, badge or award earned, date, and troop leader. Editable certificates perfect for awarding girls after earning a badge.
